How the Indian States got their name?
India comprises of twenty-nine states and all these states have different culture and religion. The states of India have got their name derived from some other source. Given below is details regarding that.
This state has its name from Sanskrit that is Hima means ‘snow’ and achal means ‘mountain’ which as a total means The Home of Snowy Mountains.
The word Punjab is split into two words that is “Punj” means five and “ab” means water that is Land of Five Rivers which is an Indo-Iranian word.
Uttaranchal came into existence in 2000 when it was actually separated from Uttar Pradesh. Uttaranchal means ‘Northern Mountains that is Uttar means north and Anchal is a mountain. Later its name was changed to Uttarakhand which means ‘Northland’.
Haryana is split in two words that is “Hari” means Vishnu or an embodiment of Lord Krishna and “ana” means to come. It is said that during Mahabharata reign Lord Krishna visited this place and so, got the name Haryana.
